A Wild Time!!!
It’s been a wild week here at the Creators Workshop Art School as students from all over North Jersey joined us for a week of fun drawing in celebrating the art of Maurice Sendak and the Wild Things. We conducted our first workshop at the Pequannock Library on Wed, Oct. 7th drawing with 35 students. Every time I conduct these free drawing workshops I’m amazed at the talent and imagination of our young artists. On Thursday and Saturday we had well over fifty students at our school drawing away. As much as we try to make our workshops entertaining I do take pride that we instill a drawing exercise in one. In our Wild Things workshop participants learned the skill of cross-hatching, a frequently used drawing technique by Maurice Sendak. This coming week “Where the wild things are” will open in theatres across the country. Although I’m sure this will be a hit at the box office, I urge parents to continue to explore the beautiful artwork of Maurice Sendak in his books as well. We thank all the wonderful young artists who shared their talents with us and look forward to out next free sell-out workshop!
