Now in our seventh year the Creators Workshop takes pride in providing genuine traditional art instruction in a fun and creative environment. This year were proud and excited to present our first Summer art camp program. This five day program is designed to provide young artists of all ages with a "soup to nuts" approach to learning the art of drawing, painting, and everything in between. Most students don’t learn this in four years of art school!
Our goal is to impart the maximum amount of knowledge in the shortest time…
and having fun in the process!
Check out our schedule;

Monday - Day 1
Morning - Students prepare their canvas from scratch, sizing, priming their cotton canvas, preparing it for stretching later in the week. We move on to an hour of traditional drawing where students learn the basics of representational drawing, including blocking in, contour, and a comprehensive understanding of the gray value scale. Drawing is the foundation for all fine artists and we make it a part of our daily routine in our camp. After our 1 pm lunch break, we move on to an introductory to learning the science of light and color.
Students are then introduced to the Munsell color system and how we use it to
successfully find the right hues in color space. Through an understanding of Hue, Value,
and Chroma, they'll have skills to mix any color possible. And that's just day one!

Tuesday - Day 2
We start day two learning the art of picture framing. Students will learn the skill of joining a frame in a framers vise and then finishing it with wood putty. After another valuable lesson in drawing we move on to choosing a master painting to copy. I've limited their choice to
three masterpiece paintings, a portrait, a landscape, and a seascape. The purpose is to show the different methods artists used through history while giving the student a variety.
In painting "The girl with the pearl earring", they'll learn Vermeers' technique of underpainting in a gray scale, then glazing it in green, and then on to final colors.
In painting George Inness' "A passing shower", students will learn to incorporate the prism, (or rainbow) into their painting. No one painted the sea better than Frederick Waugh, and students will learn how dynamic composition can bring a painting to life.
Back to the drawing board students will practice drawing the painting of their choice. We'll finish up at the easel for the rest of the day and practice painting skills.

Wednesday - Day 3
Our canvas is now ready and students will learn to stretch a canvas.
We head back to the drawing board for an hour of memory drawing skills. This is a wonderful exercise designed to teach young artists how to draw from memory.
After lunch we'll head outside for some genuine plein air painting. Students will learn what the impressionists got so excited about...painting from natural light. This is as much fun as it is of value in learning how light and atmosphere work together in our painting.
Thursday - Day 4
We now get to work painting. Students will learn how to sketch out the painting on their canvas, and from there they'll spend the day painting. In the process they'll learn mixing colors, creating form, paint strokes, blending, etc.

Friday - Day 5
Students put the finsihing touches on their painting. Upon completion, they varnish their painting after drying, and then learn how to frame their masterpiece. At the end of the day we'll hang the paintings and present our new artists with a well earned certificate of completion.
